How To Fix YouTube Subtitles
We spend a lot of time working with new clients and helping them review and audit their online presence and digital marketing strategy. One of the most common issues we find with nearly every client we work with is that their YouTube videos have incorrect subtitles or as YouTube calls them 'Closed Captions - CC'.
YouTube is super smart and has built in the ability to automatically transcribe your video. Great feature, however it can be very frustrating for many of us with non-American accents.
I have seen a number of embarrassing and downright funny translations in recent times.
To save the embarrassment and ensure your subtitles are correct, follow these steps:
Upload your video to YouTube and go into the YouTube 'Creator Studio'.
Click on the 'Edit' drop down menu next to your video and choose 'Subtitles/CC'.
3. Click on the Published 'English (Automatic)' button.
4. Now click on the 'Edit' button, and you will see to the left of your video the subtitles that YouTube has automatically generated. Just check/edit the wording and then click 'Publish'.
That's all there is to it.
Bonus Tip:
Once you have completed updating your subtitles, you may want to upload your video to Facebook and you can use the subtitles you have created in YouTube by clicking on the 'Actions' button and then click on Download '.srt'.
When you upload a video to Facebook, Facebook gives you the option to add a subtitles file which is in the .srt format.
