Workplace by Facebook

Workplace by Facebook can replace your company intranet with a much more effective forum for collaboration, sharing files and ideas, and connecting with everyone in your organisation in real time no matter if they are based behind a desk, out in the field or on the other side of the world.

It's like having your own private Facebook for your employees with its familiar and easy-to-use features, however you don't have to have a Facebook account to access Workplace. This was always one of the drawbacks with Facebook Groups - they were great for sharing information in a secure forum, and Workplace successfully takes it to the next level.

This enterprise social networking platform enables you to invite your team members via email once you have set up your company in Workplace. It is available as a mobile app for Android and iOS users. The immediacy with which users can connect and collaborate intends to inspire productivity as well as keep the entire office up to date.

The app shares the familiar Facebook look and feel, but is designed to operate completely separately and securely from any personal Facebook account. And while it's almost identical to the standard Facebook app, there are no sponsored ads or clutter in the news feeds.

I like the way you can create multi-company groups which is great for collaborating on projects. Work Chat and live video calls are designed to give users instant contact and offer a safe space to generate discussion and share ideas.

I believe Facebook are making a good attempt to take on Slack, Asana and other workplace collaboration tools. I've used Slack in the past and found it to be useful. For two projects our team are currently working on, we are using Asana.

We are in the process of setting up Workplace for one of our clients and look forward to monitoring its performance with 100+ employees.

As for price; $3 per user/per month compares well against Slack at $6.67 per user/per month.

Workplace by Facebook aims to improve the overall communicative and collaborative experience of its users - the same way that Facebook allows you to connect with friends and family, Workplace allows you to have that rich engagement with your coworkers.
